The Re-Roofing Process This section will help you understand what a re-roofing project is like and how long it might take. If you want to understand the composition of a roof, see the section on Roofing Materials. Estimate Phase Of course we would like to be the first people you call, but we understand that new roofs are expensive and that most people will want to gather 2 or 3 bids. You can request a free estimate online or simply call us at 1-87-ROOF-GANG (toll free at 1-877-663-4264). We will be happy to schedule a convenient time to examine your roof. You do not need to be home when we arrive if you give us permission to access your roof and yard. When we schedule your appointment, we'd like to know what you have in mind, for example, a new shake roof or replacing your shake roof with a new composition roof. It is important that you give similar instructions to all of the companies that you contact. If you don't know what you want or need advice, our friendly sales staff will be happy to assist and can provide product brochures and samples. If we are not the first company you call, we hope that we will be the last. We simply don't believe that another company can offer you the same level of quality and service below our very competitive prices. Don't be shy about calling us to have any aspect of the bid explained or for help in comparing our bid to others. There is additional information about comparing roof bids at Comparing Bids. The Contract Once you have selected Metroplex Roofing as your new roofing contract, we will prepare a short agreement that outlines what is to be done and the agreed upon fixed price. When you sign this agreement, you will be expected to provide a 25% down payment. This can be in the form of a personal check, or we can make arrangements for you to use your credit card. At this time, we should also be able to schedule your new roof so that it fits in with our availability at a time that is convenient for you. Prior to Beginning Before our crews arrive, a trash container will probably arrive and be placed in a location where it can be reached from the roof. This is negotiated between the sales representative and the home owner at the time the job is scheduled. Some roofing materials may begin to arrive if new plywood sheathing is being installed. Depending on the layout of your property, it is possible that a portion of your driveway or garage will be blocked for the duration of the work. If this is the case, we ask that you have your vehicle removed from the garage and park it outside for a few days. Most roofing projects will take about a week once the container arrives. What about the weather? A partly cloudy day is ideal roofing weather; however, our crews can work in many different conditions. In the event of rain, any exposed areas on your roof will be covered so that damage is not caused inside. Our crews can continue to work in light rain, but must leave the roof when the rain becomes to heavy to assure their safety. If this happens, your roof may be delayed until the weather clears, but rest assured that the crews will return as soon as possible. What is a typical day like? Our crew may arrive as early as 7:00 AM unless you have specified differently or you live in an area when the work day must begin later by law or covenant. Crews will work all day with short breaks. Depending on the flow of materials and the weather conditions, they may work until it is too dark to safely continue. Crews normally work on Saturday, but not on Sunday. For your safety, we ask that you stay clear of the work area and keep your pets and children well away also. Our crews work under very strict safety regulations mandated by the State of Washington, OSHA, and our insurance companies. The immediate work area is left reasonably clean at the end of every day. What is the order of materials? The crews will begin by removing the old roofing material. They will then install new sheathing (plywood) if you are putting on a composition roof for the first time. After this comes the felt, flashing, shingles or shakes, vents, and ridge caps. The final step is a thorough cleaning of the gutters and the jobsite, including a magnetic sweep of the area to pick up any fallen fasteners. Inspection One or two days after your roof is completed, your sales representative will walk the area with you to make sure that you are completely satisfied. Although very rare, any discrepancy between our standards and the actual work will be noted and remedied immediately. On final inspection, you will receive the manufacturer's warranty documents as well as a signed copy of the Metroplex Limited Warranty. At that time, our sales rep will pick up a check for the balance of your contract.
